LOWER MAKEFIELD — State Rep. Steve Santarsiero is leading a gathering at the Garden of Reflection Thursday to speak out against the acts of racism, homophobia and Islamophobia that have been reported across the country since Election Day.
“Whether Democrat, Republican or Independent, no citizen of this country should stand for such intolerance. It is not who we are as a people,” Santarsiero wrote on his Facebook Page.
“That these may be the acts of an ignorant few misses the point. Unless we speak out forcefully and immediately, we risk allowing such behavior and the views that they advance to become commonplace and, thereby, accepted elements of our public discourse. We have come too far and we have endured too much as a nation to allow that to happen.”
Santarsiero said the event is non-partisan and “there will be no speeches decrying any elected official or party,” however attendees will call upon elected officials — including President-elect Donald Trump — “to speak out forcefully against these acts.”
