Teen Circle of Support

3rd Friday of each month; 6:30 - 8:30 pm

The Peace Center

Facilitators: Peace Center Youth Group Staff

Suggested donation $5/family

This support group provides an opportunity for teens who are trying to navigate the many pressures in their lives by helping them to express their emotions and problem-solve their issues in a safe and supportive environment. The circle will be facilitated by several experienced adults who currently work with teenagers. Through the process of the 'talking stick' circle each participant will be empowered to learn to recognize and appreciate their uniqueness

Basic Mediation Training

Friday May 6, 6-9pm, Saturday May 7 8am-5pm, 2011

Fee:  $450

The 24 Hour Basic Mediation Training is for those interested in becoming volunteer or professional mediators. The skills developed are also transferable to any situation dealing with people. This highly interactive training gives participants the opportunity to integrate concepts and skills through lectures, exercises, discussions, videos, and role-plays. The course will benefit you whether you are interested in becoming a mediator or improving your skills as an effective communicator in any field.
Participants will learn: The mediation process, including caucusing, writing agreements, and communication skills such as: active listening, reframing, summarizing, and working with difficult people. Participants will receive a Certificate of Completion. CLE credits available

Introduction to Non-Violent Communication (NVC)

Saturday, March 5, 2011, 9am - 4pm

Do you ever have conflicts? At home? With your spouse? With your children? How about with your neighbors? Your work associates? Ever attend a church or synagogue that has had a conflict? Did you ever have a conversation about your political or religious beliefs that caused anger, resentment, or shut-down?

If you would like to learn a new way to communicate that will help you resolve your conflicts more peacefully, come to this Workshop and learn the basics of Nonviolent Communication! Nonviolent Communication (NVC) is a method of communication that helps us to participate in the joy of giving. The goal of NVC is to create a quality of connection so that in a conflict all parties can get their needs met. The workshop will present the basic theory of the NVC process. Interactive exercises will be included to reinforce the theory. Time will be available to receive coaching on how to resolve real conflicts in your life. Facilitator Keith Pacheco studied under Marshall Rosenburg, author of Non Violent Communication.
